Electronic Recycling Program a Collecting Success
The Lincoln Heritage Resource Conservation and Development Council has completed its 3rd year of coordinating and collecting electronic commodities that would otherwise end up in a local landfill. The Council has collected over 300 tons of assorted electronic equipment from twelve counties in East Central Illinois. After a time-out to review past practices, financial success, economic conditions and governmental controls the new collecting season has begun.
Each item is sorted and shipped to a processing firm that meets the approval of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The processing site evaluates all of the collected electronic equipment with the view of putting it back into service or recycling the components. The processing company works to place the refurbished equipment back into service whenever possible. Volunteers and organizations have been the main source of the workforce used to make these collections a success. This has been a great way for the public to recycle electronic waste.
Volunteers are welcome to participate in collection projects that are held throughout the year. Become part of a new age of e-waste reuse, recycle and respect.
The Collection Schedule is always a work in process
